ARTIST STATEMENT:
My art is an expression of my deepest thoughts and emotions influenced by life experiences, which convey a sense of intimacy and honesty to the viewer. Being a Cancer survivor has affected my life, and is the greatest influence in my work. The art that I produce is a reflection of my inability to conceive and my love and desire for children. I have a profound interest in the physical development of the child in utero; my artwork addresses my scientific exploration of this from the embryonic cells to the embryo and the mature fetus.
I strive to articulate the inner workings of ‘the self’ through an emotional representation of the shape, form and compression of the developing child, which is in continuous flux. I convey this in my work though the use of emotive brush strokes, the application of bold colors and delicate translucent layering which add depth; motion and a dramatic feel to the composition. My work continues to evolve as I experiment with the medium, implementing techniques such as painting with baby food to the use of encaustic, collage and photocopy transfers, which add layers of skin to the composition.
I anticipate leaving the viewer with a sense freethinking, allowing them room for reflection and personal interpretation. I convey my life and emotions in my work, a continued journey with rich discoveries yet to unfold while maintaining sincerity that allows the spectator to relate; with a realization that every ending has a new beginning.
